Studies

Several studies have been conducted in recent years along the north I-25 corridor, and have been followed by the most prominent one, still underway: the North I-25 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)

Environmental Impact Study

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is aware of the issues facing Northern Colorado in the coming years and is taking a proactive approach to study what options are available for addressing the future transportation needs of the region.

The study area for the North I-25 EIS is large, spanning from the US 287 and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad corridor on the west to the US 85 and Union Pacific Railroad corridor on the east; from Denver Union Station on the south to State Highway 1 and the Fort Collins/Wellington area on the north. The southern boundary includes Denver Union Station in order to effectively evaluate the use of passenger rail or other transit options in the region.

Major Investment Study

The North Front Range Transportation Alternatives Feasibility Study (NFRTAFS) was an effort by CDOT, the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Upper Front Range Regional Planning Commission and the Denver Regional Council of Governments, along with representatives from cities and counties in the region to develop regional solutions to transportation safety and mobility problems, traffic congestion and air quality issues.

In 2001, the study concluded with a vision for the corridor that includes commuter rail, express lanes and general purpose lanes from State Highway 7 to State Highway 66, express lanes in the north Denver metro area, inter-regional bus service and other regional mobility improvements.
